iKey-9 - Anno 2019

Agent “technician” Simone Riva is a specialized security technician and an agent for the company A.P.Fer. His qualification makes him a strong point of reference for his costumers. iKey: Tell us a little bit about your “atypical” story… S.R: When I was 19, I started working for a glass company as a technician specialized in doors and windows design, plate glass and custom-made accessories (hinges, locks..). At 23, I started working as an agent for a German hardware multinational corporation. I started my own business, but I had to shut it down due to disagreements with my partner. At that point, Mr Antonio Pezzarossa and his son Alberto offered me a position as an agent at their company, A.P.Fer. Since then, I’ve only been working for them. Working with only one wholesaler allows a greater professional and econimical growth. iKey: How is being an agent in the security market different from other product sectors? S.R: In order to be productive and successful in this market, agents need to have a technical background knowledge; we also must keep up with the constant development and improvement of the products. I was a technician before being an agent; this is why I like to describe myself as a technician-seller, not a seller-technician. iKey: They say that the security business is not affected by the economical crisis. What do you think about it? S.R: This business is constantly growing. The biggest challenge is to always come up with new solutions and ideas, using the most recent technology, in order to maintain that safety we work for. I personally feel extremely lucky: working with locks and security for years, gave me a strong background knowledge and experience. iKey: Let’s talk about different types of costumers… S.R: The owner of the single hardware store works in team with the agent, so as to always be uptodate with the new products and technologies, in order to always have the best solution for every client request. The final goal is to encourage the client to choose the hardware store over other possibilities such as Amazon and mass distribution.
